Playford Alive first homebuyer precinct gathers pace
First homebuyers will get exclusive access to the next 34 blocks of land at Playford Alive, as a new initiative to get more people into affordable homes gathers momentum.
Under a joint agreement between the State and Federal Governments, Playford Alive will deliver a minimum of 400 homes exclusively for First Home Buyers under the 100,000 Homes for First Home Buyers program, a national plan to build homes for people buying their first home.
Demand has surged over recent months with enquiries from first home buyers in June rising more than 50 per cent on the previous month and website enquiries doubling compared with the average of the past year.
Peter Gatsios, Renewal SA's Executive Director of Residential Project Delivery and Assets, said the level of interest pointed to strong demand for the exclusive release.
"We've seen strong interest since this precinct was announced, and this release of 34 allotments gives first home buyers an opportunity to secure land within a precinct reserved exclusively for eligible first home buyers,” Mr Gatsios said.
"The response shows there is strong demand from first home buyers looking for a clearer pathway into the housing market.”
"This is the next stage in a steady stream of releases we'll bring to market over the next 12 to 18 months. We are focused on getting each one out as quickly as we can, so more people get their chance at home ownership."
Allotments within this release range in size from 270 square metres up to 450 square metres, with prices starting from $250,000.
To be considered for a first home buyer allotment, buyers must be at least 18 years of age, an Australian citizen or permanent resident and intend to be an owner-occupier.
Playford Alive is one of the largest urban renewal projects in Australia and already sees about 80 per cent of its land sales come from people entering the market.
Led by Renewal SA, in partnership with the South Australian Housing Trust and the City of Playford, more than 43,000 people are expected to call the community home.
