The health and safety of the community are our highest priority. Following the Australian government announcement that all gatherings over 500 are to be cancelled due to the current Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, we have decided to cancel the upcoming Playford Alive @ The Precinct event that was scheduled for 28 March 2020.

It is our intention to hold this event in the future, when safe to do so, but cannot advise any timings at this stage.

We appreciate your understanding and patience during this challenging and uncertain time.

Since 2004 the Playford Alive Fun Day has celebrated the spirit of the Playford Alive community and shone a spotlight on the public spaces the area has available for all to enjoy.

The Fun Day was started by a group of passionate and dedicated community members who worked with Playford Council through the ‘Imagine Peachey’ initiative. It was later taken on by state government as part of the delivery of the Playford Alive project and delivered in partnership with Renewal SA, the SA Housing Authority, the City of Playford and the Playford Alive Community Reference Group.

From its roots in the Smithfield Plains Shopping Centre, the John McVeity Centre and the former Smithfield Plains Primary School the day has grown to showcase the Curtis Road wetlands and Playford Alive Town Park in recent years.

After 15 years of fun, the Playford Alive project has achieved its goals of showcasing new public spaces within the project area and is now looking to focus on other initiatives within and for the community.

The Playford Alive Fun Day will not be continuing.

We are delighted with the success of this event and thank all who have supported it and helped to make it such an enjoyable day for the community.

There are many other events happening over the Spring and Summer months that are held within or close to the Playford Alive area:

  • RAAF Edinburgh Air Show: 9-10 November
  • One Tree Hill Country markets: 2 November and 7 December
  • Playford Christmas Pageant: 30 November
  • WonderFULL Christmas Festival at the Playford Uniting Church:  20 December

In early 2020 we will be holding a Community Day at the Precinct on Coventry Road in Smithfield Plains. This is an opportunity to bring people together and activate this new community hub. More details will be available soon.
